July 4th brings out our patriotism to our country. It is the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed back in 1776. On that day, 243 years ago, our country, the United States of America was born. It was on that day, that we became an independent nation from Great Britain.
Many people, of all ages, from across the country, look forward to the July 4th fireworks. I remember, many decades ago, growing up in Brooklyn, New York, getting so excited as July 4th approached. I lived in a 6-story apartment building. Every year, my sister and I, and our friends from the building couldn’t wait until it was dark outside. We knew the fireworks would be starting soon. We would climb the stairs to the rooftop, along with some of the other tenants, to wait for the fireworks to be set off at Coney Island. What a treat that was for me!!!!!
This year, in Asheville, we saw a fantastic firework display that was set off at Lake Julian Park on Long Shoals Road. You didn’t even have to be at the park to enjoy the show. People were lined up and down Long Shoals Road. There were plenty of parking spaces at the surrounding outdoor shopping centers. Families made themselves comfortable meeting up with friends, family, and making new friends along the way.
When the show began, there were shouts of joy!! The “Grand Finale” always is a thrill………bringing back all those cherished childhood memories from a distant past.
I already know where I will be next year on July 4th………Long Shoals Road! Hope to see you there!!
