Call it Fall. Call it Autumn. I call it the best season of the year. Granted the temperatures have been way above the norm, but they are just about to drop! Walking down the road at Asheville Country Cabins, I have been seeing a rainfall of leaves dropping from the trees, drifting slowly to the ground. It is nature’s gift, watching the leaves gradually turning colors.
I will totally enjoy waking up to the cooler morning temperatures. Memory lane starts replaying the “good old days” of apple picking, apple cider, and freshly baked warm doughnuts. Fast forward to today, and you can easily recapture those comforting memories by simply driving over to Grandad’s Apples. Watch as they prepare and bake those fresh doughnuts. How about picking apples right off the trees in their orchards? Take a bite, or just maybe you’ll take them home, and transform them into candy or caramel apples on a stick. Now that’s a real “memory lane” treat!!
Grandad’s also has a huge corn maze field, not to mention loads of pumpkins to choose from. Kids love putting the pumpkins of their choice into wheelbarrows and pushing them about. Grandad’s sets aside an area of so many fun activities for the whole family. Kids will not forget this fun time anytime soon…….I would even venture to say that they will be adding to their own “lifelong memories”.
So, we “oldies” get to relive our childhood memories, and the young ones get to create new ones. That’s what this season does….it sparks the old, and creates the new.
Here in Western NC, it is a must to take a “Fall” drive up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Slow down and just enjoy the “Fallness” in the air and all around you. It will definitely take your day and move it up a few notches. Find yourself a destination with an inviting fireplace such as at our Asheville Country Cabins. Peel some of those freshly picked apples, and make yourself a treat. It could be simple like sliced apples with a little honey, or a fresh, out-of-the- oven apple pie.
I don’t know about you, but I have this urge to go find that special pumpkin or two, and let the magic of Fall begin!!
